Keeping the Building Instead of Demolishing It

An aging worship building in Forest City needed major roof work if it was going to remain in use. DeSantis Roofing replaced most of the wood sheathing, all fascia boards, the roof, and the gutter system, then installed IKO architectural shingles.

The local church had been weighing two choices: replace the roof on the older building or demolish it. The church chose to keep the building and move forward with the roof replacement.

That decision made the condition beneath the old roofing important. A new roof covering alone would not address damaged wood or fascia that needed replacement.

DeSantis Roofing replaced a large majority of the wood sheathing and all of the fascia boards. The sheathing provides the surface for the roofing system, while the fascia runs along the roof edge and supports details such as the gutters.

Wood replacement can be difficult to quantify before the old roofing comes off. If a proposal includes possible sheathing or fascia work, ask how the contractor will document what needs replacement and how the additional work will be priced.

The replacement roof used IKO architectural shingles. DeSantis Roofing also installed a new gutter system, completing the roof-edge work alongside the new shingles and fascia.

The finished scope gave the retained worship building a new roof and gutters after the underlying wood work was addressed.
